Forty scouts, ages 11 to 16, set off on an unforgettable adventure. They spent nine incredible days in Poland — nine full days completely unplugged, with every phone left safely behind in Ireland. On the plane, the kids filled the time the old‑school way: playing chess and cards, weaving bracelets, diving into books, and chatting away.
Once in Poland, the days were packed with excitement. They played in the snow, explored fascinating museums, and travelled between powerful historical landmarks — even standing at the very place where the Second World War began. There was dancing, singing, endless games, and the occasional harmless prank that kept everyone laughing. Each evening, they gathered to reflect on the day, sharing stories, thoughts, and favourite moments.
It was a wonderful, memory‑making journey — a time of deepening friendships, constant discovery, and pure, joyful adventure.
40 Scouts, 9 Days, 3960 hours of detox
The scouts clocked up an incredible number of hours of Detox and had so much fun creating lasting memories while they did it.
The scouts recorded two short videos for us: one on their journey from Ireland and one on their journey back.
Here is how they fitted into the Detox categories:
Physical Activity– ice skating, bowling, playing active games, dancing, walking 20000 steps per day, dancing
Creative Expression– During the evening sessions, the scouts did role play, created local monuments out of different materials of what we have seen during our tours, little theatre performances of Polish legends connected to the region, recreating history about famous astronomers in a fun way.
Mindfulness- daily reflection and singing, review of the day, what went well, what they liked and what they didn’t like.
Social Community- visiting all the places, meeting tour guides telling us about the cities we visited, our daily social interactions, such as card games, chess games
Learning and Reading- in museums they had many interactive lessons about history and culture, they took part in amber workshop, in the Malbork castle- the biggest brick castle in the world- we had two interactive lessons about medieval weapons and architecture.
